Limestone Meadow Sedge (Carex granularis)

Habitat: Encountered locally in wet meadows, mesic upland clearings, floodplain forests, and alluvial swamps. The species appears to be most frequent on base-rich soils of the Triassic Basin in western Fairfax County and in freshwater tidal swamps along the Potomac.

Characteristics: Leaves usually glaucous; Perigynia often yellow-green, obovoid and abrupty contracted into a short, essentially toothless beak that is outcurved.
